Connemara Ponies and Horses

Dawn of Promise Farm has raised Connemaras since 1985. Connemara stallion, Kerrymor Madison, was added to the farm as a yearling in 1988, and he was Vickie's primary riding horse until 2018. He passed away in November 2019 at age 32.
In 2009, we reduced our pony herd in a decision that stemmed from the demands of our day jobs, music business, and the expense involved in keeping horses.
Vickie continues to own and enjoy her Connemara, Sooey Annabelle "Chirico." Together they are learning liberty work and they also love trail riding with friends. You can see Chirico's own Facebook page and follow her story at https://www.fb.com/sooeyannabelle. There are also videos of her on the YouTube channel: dpfponies.
We know that going from horses to llamas is not for everyone - but was a wonderful transition for us. We do picture that we'll always have a Connemara or two that we're riding and enjoying, but meanwhile, we're certainly enjoying the company of llamas and do some showing, teaching people how to train llamas for performance classes and work with the fiber (spinning, selling roving and yarn in our Etsy shop). The farm has worked well for either species!
If you'd like to visit a photo album of our Connemara ponies, both past and present, please check out this link. The photo above is a VJ Maris photo of Dawn's Brennainn who is a Connemara gelding bred and raised by Vickie. Brenn is by Kerrymor Madison and out of Realta. He was purchased by Jodi Melfi in Ohio who put a lot of training on him and has recently sold him to a junior rider in Ohio. He's an awesome boy!
